Community-based fundraising is the new philanthropic model. The folks behind Mitzfunder want to create a Jewish-specific, community-based fundraising tool akin to Kickstarter. This is a novel and potentially revolutionary way to fund synagogue initiatives. If you’re not familiar with this project-based funding platform, I encourage you to research Kickstarter, Indiegogo, ChipIn and Kiva. This is the way YJA’s fund their world – we should be using it too and Mitzfunder wants to give us a tool just for our community.

While S3K and Next Dor will rarely endorse a specific product, we think this project is more than valuable – it’s an essential tool in creating and sustaining Next Dor communities. To that end, we are partnering with Mitzvfunder to make this happen. They are using the same community-based model of fundraising to create their venture.
