Micah is planning an erev Rosh Hashanah and Kol Nidre service for 20s/30s -- we're doing it without tickets, open to walkins to essentailly bring in unaffiliated folks.

But, we have to come up with a solution for mahzorim since we don't have any.  Trying to decide if we should invest in some, and therefore, which ones; develop our own and handout, maybe not even have any and experiement with liturgy and prayers being on a screen at the front of the service.

If you have done this before, would love your thoughts or reactions over which way to go and/or if you have machzorim to recommend!

Thanks,

Esther

Esther, Temple Israel of Hollywood out here in LaLa land put together a terrific machzor a few years ago when they were in our S2K "worship track." Contact John Rosove for a copy...

And, you might ask Sharon Brous at IKAR to share with you a "guide to the high holy days" she put together...it's not a machzor per se, but it is a fabulous "road map" to the worship experience.

Thanks Ron. I will!
Esther,

It's funny that you bring up the topic of machzorim (well, not really funny). The very first discussion topic at Next Dor Online was this very thing - posted by Noa a year ago, http://www.nextdoronline.org/forum/topics/has-anyone-seen-great-sid.... I hope you get more response than Noa did!

Esther - I'm forgetting what we've done at Romemu - I think one year we may have done our own, but check with David - I'm sure he's got good ideas - rabbi@romemu.org :) Sadie
Thanks Sadie. Good idea!
Two more ideas comes to mind - do you know Jordan Bendat Appell? I think he's in Chicago these days - he's a rabbi in his 30s, does a lot of yoga and meditation, a really lovely and interesting person - I'd try him too - jbappell@gmail.com Also, ithe t's been a couple years since I've been up to Elat Chayyim for the chaggim, but I'm wondering what they're using; most of my friends up there have moved on, but Tara could probably point you in the right direction tara@isabellafreedman.org And I'll post it as a question in FB/Buzz. If you get anything good back, please post here! :) Best, Sadie
A bit late to the discussion but I'm staring at a stack of 60 Birnbaum machzors.  They're old school but in great shape.
We ended up writing our own!

Nice.  I was in a similar position and someone donated them to me. For my part as a participant, I sorta like getting lost in the piyyutim when the cantor waffles. But when I'm the cantor its gotta be more clear, so we went with Mahzor Hadash.

BTW, I'm coming to DC next month to do a program for Alana Suskin- we should meet....
